Janie's Place

Welcome !

Navigation:

Janie's Place is sublime in summer with roses and honeysuckle cascading down the 200-year-old stone merchant's house.  Our B&B has a walled orchard garden, attractive spacious courtyard, covered parking and sleeps eight.  It is an ideal retreat for painting  or writing, and a great place for househunting!  EMAIL janeyule@tele2.fr

Easily accessible by road, rail and air.  We are just off the N10 and an easy 50-minute-drive from Poitiers Airport.  You can't get lost!  Take the first exit after RUFFEC towards ANGOULEME and you are only a minute or so from our Chambres d' Hotes.  Budget airlines fly into a number of nearby airports from the UK - Poitiers, Limoges, Bergerac, La Rochelle and Bordeaux.

OUR TERRIER BAXTER. PETS ARE WELCOME.

Both the conservatory and the dining room open into the garden, where you may choose to enjoy a leisurely breakfast or dinner.  A four-course dinner with wine and coffee is 23 euros, and is generally served at 7.30 - 8 pm.

We are also happy to offer vegetarian options. Whenever possible we serve fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs from the garden.  Peaches, cherries, grapes and figs, as well as sumptuous Charentaise melons, apples and pears are the fruits from our orchard.

In 2007 we were lucky enough to be featured on the Guardian Newspaper Travel Website as one of the best "veggie friendly" Bed and Breakfasts for our vegetarian menu option. Louise Tickle wrote " A veritable feast of selected mezze had been prepared, each dish tasting intensely of the concentrated flavour of the vegetable involved.Marinated courgettes with fresh herbs, warm tomato and goat's cheese tart, mixed vegetable couscous and chargrilled aubergines basted with extra virgin olive oil were followed by a couple of unctous ripe cheeses and a home made alcohol-soaked rhum-baba."

Our spacious sitting/dining room is warmly decorated with antique furniture, prints and oil paintings.  Relax on the old leather Chesterfield with a book - there are plenty to choose from!  We also have a hi-fi, television and DVD.  Old oak timber floors are one of the many character features of the house.

Naturally a grasp of French is important, but there are a number of English-speaking estate agents.   Janie is a professional translator, and would be happy to accompany you on house-hunting trips by prior arrangement, or to offer a couple of French lessons!     email janeyule@tele2.fr
